By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. John 15:8
Question: What is probably the most-often asked question at social gatherings when strangers meet? Answer: “So, what do you do?” Asking about a person’s job is a time-tested icebreaker, good for a couple of minutes of chitchat-double that amount if the question is reciprocated: “And what do you do? Actually, every Christian could answer the question with the exact same template: ” I serve the Lord Jesus by serving as a (name your position).” As slaves of Jesus Christ (Romans 1:1), we really have only one job in life: to serve Him. We might go too many different venues for our vocations, but ultimately we are serving for Him. As Christ came into the world to accomplish His Father’s will (John 6:38), so we go into the world to accomplish Christ’s will (Matthew 28:19-20; John 20:21). When we serve the Lord, we accomplish two things: earning our daily bread through our labor and extending the Kingdom of God by manifesting Christ’s love and values to others. So, what do you do? And how can you better serve Christ today through your work and service to Him?
When a vine produces “much fruit,” God is glorified, for daily he sent the sunshine and rain to make the crops grow, and constantly He nurtured each tiny plant and prepared it to blossom. What a moment of glory for the Lord of the harvest when the harvest is brought into the barns, mature and ready for use! He made it all happen! This farming analogy shows how God is glorified when people come into right relationship with Him and begin to produce much fruit” in their lives.
