O LORD, I have heard Your speech and was afraid; O LORD, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy. (HABAKKUK 3:1-6)
When God created the rotations and revolutions of the heavenly bodies, He did so in a way that gives us consistent periods of time called years, each of which is comprised of approximately 365.25 days. More precisely, a year is 31,557,600 seconds. The Lord wants to bless each second of this year by giving us perpetual and personal revival.
HABAKKUK 3;2 : Habakkuk knew that God was going to discipline the people of Judah and that it wasn’t going to be a pleasant experience. But Habakkuk accepted God’s will, asking for help and mercy. Habakkuk did not ask to escape the discipline, but he accepted the truth that Judah needed to learn a lesson. God still disciplines in love to bring his children back to Him. (Hebrews 12:5,6). Accept God’s discipline gladly, and ask Him to help you to change.
(HABAKKUK 3:19). Habakkuk had asked God why evil people prosper while the righteous suffer. God’s answer: They don’t, not in the long run. Habakkuk saw his own limitations in contrast to God’s unlimited power and control of all the world’s events. This same God is alive and in control of the world and its events. We cannot see all that God is doing and we cannot see all that God will do. But we can be assured that he is God and will do what is right, knowing this can give us confidence and hope in a confusing world.
Perhaps this will be the year when a global awakening will occur- and how we need it! But even if we don’t witness a historic revival, we can live with daily spiritual freshness in our own heart, which will spread to others. Revival gives new freshness to you.
Let’s adopt Habakkuk’s prayer. If you need a fresh experience with the Lord, this year tell Him and then be determined to bring your life into alignment with all that He shows you in Scripture. For you, your family, your church, this can be a refreshing season for all who desire to be revived personally. This can be a year when the work of God is revived in your very life.
