“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today”.
Have you heard people (sometimes Christians), who repeatedly say, Worry is what I do, my mother did it, and her mother did it. I’m just a worry wart. I have friends that say it and they indeed are plagued by their lack of ability to surrender that burden over to the Lord.. They say these things as though this was the acceptable thing to do…. Well, we will see where Matthew 6:34 has something different to say about those who worry..
Worry means “to divide, tear, rip apart; to pull in opposite directions.” Let’s Pause here… So, to be anxious, according to Scripture, is to be torn apart by circumstances. Pause….
Scripture clearly teaches we aren’t to worry. In Philippians 4:6, we are commanded, “Do not be anxious (do not worry) about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication…
Matthew 6:34; Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
That has never been more true. We looked at (Matthew 6:33) ; Worrying is a direct result of not seeking God’s provision. Again from the Sermon on the Mount; Jesus points out the importance of not worrying. For the third time, Jesus gives his disciples this command not to worry. Let’s reason together. 1. Worry is inconsistent (6:25). If we can trust Jesus to provide us with our lives, can we not also trust Him with our daily needs? 2. Worry is irrational (Matthew 6:26). If our Lord cares for the birds, will He not also care for us, since we are more valuable than birds? 3. Worry is ineffective (6:27). Who among us can add one cubit (the length from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger), to our stature by worrying? 4. Worry is illogical (Matthew 6:28-30), If God can clothe the lilies of the field, can He not also clothe us? 5. Worry is doubting (Matthew 6:31-32). When we worry, we act just like those who do not know God. In this case, “Unbelievers.”
So, to avoid worrying we need a system of priorities: “ Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness” (6:33). We also need a strategic program: “ Do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about its own things.” (Matthew 6:34).
Therefore, as we struggle with our emotions, we must bring our honest thoughts and confessions to the Lord and allow His Word to speak truth over our feelings.
Planning for tomorrow is time well spent; worrying about tomorrow is time wasted. So submit all emotions and worries over to the Lord.
Be Encouraged Today !
As You Focus on living for God’s kingdom, you will discover there lies the antidote for worry…..
