God’s Light

Everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light lest his deeds should be exposed.  But he who does the truth comes to the light.               John 3:20-21

Many tourists have visited  the Washington DC Holocaust Museum, in Washington DC. At a certain point in the narrative, we entered a room where there was total darkness.  The result was absolute darkness.  It felt eerie to be unable to sense your surroundings.  Then at the end of the narration, there was light, representing what happened on that dark time.

Sin in the life of a believer creates this same eerie phenomenon.  As Christians, we claim that we do not want to be unequally yoked with the works of darkness. But when we choose sin, darkness enters our lives, and we become shut off from God, our light source.  Like the Psalmist tells us, when we live with the darkness of sin in our  lives, our communication with God is broken (Psalm 66:18).

So how can we turn the lights back on, spiritually speaking?  Confessing our sin to God is the only way to bring His light back.  Is God convicting you to evaluate a relationship, a habit, or maybe an attitude?  Before you do anything else, take a moment to clear out the darkness in your life.  Confessing our sin to God is a step into light!

When we look at (John 19-21), in light of this passage, we understand the truth is that many people don’t want their lives exposed to God’s light because they are afraid of what will be revealed.  They don’t want to be changed.  So, don’t be surprised when these same people are threatened by your desire to obey God and do what is right because they are afraid that the light in you may expose some of the darkness in their lives.  Rather than giving in to discouragement, keep praying that they will come to see how much better it is to live in light than in darkness.

Someone once said “It is no advantage to be near the light if the eyes are closed.

 Be Encouraged Today!

As you walk in the truth of His Light.
