In God We Trust Psalm 46
If you listen to the News, no doubt you’ve heard the scary stories of all the political upheaval, global threats, and natural or man-made catastrophes. People around you may be fearful and stressed. However, there is no reason that a child of God should feel that way. As Believers in Christ Jesus, He is our refuge and very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).
While this passage describes a variety of disasters, the writer’s intention was certainly not to cause fear. Rather, these words are a reminder of God’s supremacy over everything that happens, His protection of His people, and the ultimate victory that results in His Kingdom’s rule on earth. In light of this, we are told to let go of worry and efforts to protect ourselves-and instead trust Him. Our comfort and security are found not in hysterically running around, trying to make sure we are safe, but in knowing God. Whatever trouble we experience, He is sufficient to help us through it.
The fear of mountains or cities suddenly crumbling into the sea as the result of an earthquake or a nuclear blast haunts many people today. But the Psalm writer says that even if the world were to end, we need not fear. In the face of utter destruction, the writer expressed quiet confidence in God’s ability to save him. It seems impossible to consider the end of the world without becoming consumed by fear, but the Bible is clear… God is our refuge even in the midst of total destruction. He is not merely a temporary retreat; He is our eternal refuge and can provide strength in any circumstance.
The key is courageously facing the future is confidence in the Lord. He’s our Shelter, Strength, and help in trouble. To increase your trust in Him. I would like to encourage you to read through the Psalms, intentionally , looking for words and phrases that affirm His protection, steadfastness , and care.
