Waiting On God

” Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for him to act”.                                                                                                                                                                                                               Psalms 37:7

As a young Christian, I can remember faithfully going to church listening to Sermon after Sermon and not really understanding the importance of waiting on the Lord.  Waiting on the Lord may be one of the most difficult aspects of the Christian life.  Waiting requires patience, something that many of us know little about.  We live in a hurry, hurry, let’s get it done, fast paced society.  A World where we have been trained to expect fast service, one where we must have what we should have had, yesterday rather than today.  We drive through fast food chains, we microwave our food, we pace from one line to another in a grocery store looking for a line that is moving faster than the one we happened to be standing in.  When waiting on the Lord we quickly learn that patience doesn’t come naturally.

Let’s ponder on what the following  Scriptures have to say about Waiting on the Lord.

Psalm 27:14 “Wait  for the Lord; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes wait for the Lord.

Psalm 40:1  ” I waited patiently for the LORD; and He reached down to me and heard my cry.

Psalm 37:7  “Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; do not get upset…

Patience can be defined in several ways:

Quiet, not complaining endurance under stress or annoyance.

Having a good attitude while waiting.

Intentionally, having the will to wait.

Of all the principles I’ve learned in Scriptures, the one that stands out to me the most is the concept of waiting upon the Lord.  Scripture is clear that we are to wait Patiently, (Psalm 37:7) We are to wait Quietly; (Psalm 62:1)Trustingly, (Psalm 37:7), Expectantly, (Psalm 27:13), Standing on God’s Word; (Psalm 130:5).       Pause…How do you Wait?

These are important truths to grasp a hold of.   God’s will includes His timing and not ours.  God has an awesome plan for us, but He only reveals it one step at a time.  When we chose to follow, His plan for our life, He is glorified and we are fulfilled.   However, if we choose not to follow God’s plan and will for our lives, we’ll end up ultimately following our own course.

When we choose our way we become confused, dissatisfied and discouraged because we fail to choose God’s plan for us.  We become discouraged because  we’ve missed what God intended to give us and do through us.   My friend, No matter what we are facing, we can know that God always acts on behalf of those who wait for Him.. Because He’s the Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Sovereign God of the universe , He can do what no one else can, and He always works for our good.  (Isaiah 64:4)
