The Value In Humanity

Then the LORD God formed [that is, created the body of] man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being [an individual complete in body and spirit].              Genesis 2:7

After pondering on Genesis 2:7; in a recent study, I realized things I hadn’t in my past studies of Genesis.  When I stumbled across this verse, “Then the LORD God formed the man out of the dust from the ground And breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being….   Let’s pause there.

The very fact that man was created from Dust, shows how Unique, Valued and Loved we are.  We see without a doubt that man is a unique combination of earthly, natural material and life-giving power from God Himself.  This highlights the importance and value of human life.

The use of dust suggests a certain lowliness.  God used dust, a humble substance to show that everything that is created by God has a certain value, because it can be used.  In Genesis 3:19, we see man’s dependence upon God and our fragile nature as humans.  Dust we were made and to dust we will return.  Now let’s pause and think about that…..    God could have chosen to create humans in any way He desired.  However, Scripture records the particular way in which He did create- using both natural material (dust), and supernatural power to give, us a unique place in His creation.  God has designed the earth different from other planets as He formed it to be inhabited (Isaiah45:18).   God breath emphasizes the supernatural power of God and fragile nature of humanity.. Human life is completely dependent upon God, and as a result, we are called to worship Him…
