Seek God’s Kingdom

” But seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these thing will be added to you.”           Matthew 6: 33

I don’t know about you, but my spirit has been so unsettled as I listen to the news, scan believers posts on social media and see the mean spiritedness revealed in people.  I’ve become more aware of the hypocrisy and ugliness of a society that no longer has the fear of God.

There is definitely an unsettled feeling.   Perhaps you are wondering like me, how did we get to a place of settling for less than.  I know it is SIN that has ran rampant and unchecked for years.  As we continue to live in a world that is dimly fading away, from what we once knew this world as.  We continue to see a world that seeks self rather than seeking the good of others; it is increasingly important to Seek first the Kingdom of God.

The definition of Seek refers to seeking His presence. The Bible repeatedly calls us to “seek the Lord… seek His presence continually”  (Psalms 105:4).  Both the Old and New Testaments  say  it is  “setting  the mind and heart” on God.  *It is the conscious fixing or focusing of our mind’s attention and our heart’s affection on God.   To seek something is to earnestly look for it with the expectation of finding it.

Seek first the Kingdom of God was first introduced by Jesus on the Sermon on the Mount, in Matthew 6:33.  This piece of scripture is so clear.  Yet many including myself miss the mark.  What’s so hard about it? We are to simply seek the things of God as a priority over the things of this world.  v 33; refers to seeking the kingdom of God above all else, to put God First in your life, to fill your thoughts with his desires for you.  Jesus has left us with a great example.  He modeled the very character of God. Jesus walked, talked and breathed the Kingdom.  A Kingdom He would return to.  He taught that our focus should be away from this world as we know it.  It’s status and it’s lying allurements…and placed upon the things of God’s Kingdom.

The problem is that even with such direct instruction, its truths are still difficult to live by.  Far too many of God’s children, think they can mix a little of God with way to much of the world.  We’re willing to follow a few isolated fragments of what we find in God’s Word such as going to church, mid-week Bible Study, giving money when it’s convenient. However, unwilling to walk in the truth of God’s comprehensive plan and purpose for our lives. Plain and simple. We are not willing to submit to the will of God. The sad part is that God has so much more for his children.  If only we keep in mind that this world as we know it is only temporal. Keeping this in mind will help you to remember that we have a heavenly purpose while here on earth.  When you incorporate the world in with God’s Word, your asking God to bless something that is in total opposition to His Word and His plan for you.

God has promised to provide for His own, supplying every need (Philippians 4:19), In His Perfect timing.

So,  how do you know if you are Seeking First the Kingdom of God?  We can ask ourselves a few questions:   How are you putting the things of God first?  How is my day being spent?  Are you  serving and building up others in the Body?   When I need guidance to make decisions, where do I go first?

An invitation is given in Matthew 6:33 to put God first, and He will meet all or needs.
